Together, they bring two complementary perspectives, one shared respect for the land, and a deeply personal ambition: to build NiLi’s into a trusted Indian agricultural and coffee brand that can take the richness of the Western Ghats to the world.

Nisha Ram

Born into the land. Raised around plantations. Driven by a passion for growing.

For Nisha, agriculture is not a business discovered later in life — it is part of her heritage. Coming from a family with roots in the plantation and agricultural economy of Coorg, Kodagu, she grew up with an intrinsic connection to the rhythms of estate life: the changing seasons, the monsoon, the flowering of coffee, the ripening of cherries, the cultivation of spices and the constant work required to nurture land.

Coorg has long been defined by its agricultural landscape, where coffee and pepper agroforestry are deeply embedded in the hills of Kodagu. For Nisha, this landscape is more than a geographical location — it is home. It represents family, memories, responsibility and a way of life passed from one generation to another.

A heritage of understanding the estate

Growing up with exposure to plantation life has given Nisha an appreciation for the realities behind agricultural production. An estate may appear tranquil from the outside, but successful plantation agriculture requires constant attention — understanding:

Shade, sunlight and seasonal cycles
Planting, replanting and crop health
Harvesting, labour and post-harvest handling

Nisha’s connection to Coorg gives NiLi’s something that cannot be manufactured through branding alone: authentic agricultural provenance, where both Arabica and Robusta are cultivated alongside pepper, cardamom, orange, banana and arecanut. For her, the future of farming is not about separating crops from nature — it is about understanding how they can exist together: coffee with a sense of place, agriculture with a sense of responsibility, a business with a sense of heritage.

From the agricultural traditions of Kottayam to the world of modern enterprise.

If Nisha brings the heritage of the Coorg plantation to NiLi’s, Lijo brings another important dimension — the agricultural traditions of Kottayam and Kerala combined with contemporary business, strategy and management experience.

Kottayam has one of Kerala’s strongest plantation identities. The district lies between the Western Ghats and the agricultural landscapes of central Kerala, and is historically associated with rubber, spices, paddy and other commercial crops. For Lijo, agriculture is equally connected to family heritage and the landscape in which he grew up — but his journey has extended beyond traditional agriculture.

Bringing management discipline to the land

Lijo’s professional experience across strategy, business advisory, programme management, governance, operational excellence and organisational transformation has shaped the way he approaches the agricultural enterprise — creating a distinctive combination: the instincts of a farmer with the discipline of a strategist. He sees an estate not only as farmland, but as a living enterprise. A successful plantation requires:
